Fox’s comedy series New Girl and Brooklyn Nine-Nine are finally teaming up for Fox’s very first cross-over. It premieres on Tuesday, October 11, at 8/7c on Brooklyn Nine-Nine and continues on New Girl at 8:30/7:30c.
The two shows will have their paths cross during Jess Day, in which Jess, played by Zooey Deschanel, goes on a trip to New York for what they think is a ceremony for Schmidt, played by Max Greenfield. The latter is supposed to be getting an award from his high school on Long Island.
In a report by ET, the PR department at Fox got together and decided to do something new and mix up their shows a little. In an interview with star Andy Samberg, they thought the two shows aren’t new anymore, and they may do some tweaking with them.
“And they were like, ‘What if we took this show and this show and we just smushed ’em together?’ And then they were like, ‘Pop the champagne, gang, because we did it again!” Samberg jokes in the interview about the cross-over.
According to TV Guide, in the cross-over, Jake is chasing a suspect as he is a cop. Jake stops Jess while she’s driving through the streets of New York and demands to commandeer Schmidt’s mom’s car from her.
During the ceremony for Schmidt, he finds out that the school is just hitting him up for money. That’s when he freaks out and Jess decides to drive into the city. That’s when they crossed paths with Jake.
Jake took Jess to the 99th Precinct station where she gave her incident report. Jess made her slightly weird character interact with a New York civil servant.
