The San Antonio Spurs host the Memphis Grizzlies in their NBA Play-Offs series at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas, on April 19, Tuesday, starting 9:30 pm ET.
Kawhi Leonard’s incredible performance led the Spurs beat the Grizzlies 106-74 in the game 1 of the series. The official NBA sources quote, “Leonard not only led the way offensively with 20 points in Sunday’s series opener, but he also finished with four of San Antonio’s 13 steals and three of its nine blocks.”
“Kawhi’s a very good defender, and he takes great pride in it,” coach Gregg Popovich said. “He did what he usually does for us. It’s important.”
Leonard also became the first non-center to win the league’s best defence award in consecutive seasons “since Dennis Rodman in 1989-90 and 1990-91.”
Even Memphis players could not stop admiring Leonard’s performance. “He’s in passing lanes, he has great on-ball instincts, great hands and he blocks shots very well at his position as well,” Memphis swingman Vince Carter said. “He’s just relentless, and he really gets their defence started.”
The Spurs had the second best regular season record 67-15 after the Golden State Warriors. They have created a fortress at home and beating the Spurs in Texas is a monumental task. The Grizzlies should take inspiration from the Warriors who beat the Spurs last week at home.
Sources state that the Grizzlies must build a strong offence if they want to “steal” a victory at the AT&T Center.
