The Golden State Warriors will take on the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday, April 7, at the Oracle Arena in Oakland starting 10:30 pm ET.
The Warriors have been erratic with their performance, lately. Boston Celtics ended the Warriors’ 54-game winning streak after which they went down to Minnesota Timberwolves 124-117 in Tuesday night’s game. As per the official NBA reports, if the Warriors want to “break” the Chicago Bulls’ 1995-96 record of 72-wins, they must rally their troops to win the remaining four games starting this Thursday against the formidable San Antonio Spurs.
“It’s a miracle that we’ve gone this far without hitting a bump in the road,” coach Steve Kerr said Wednesday. “This is to be expected. Every team goes through it. It’s just probably surprising for people out there and maybe even our own guys because this season has maybe come too easy for us.”
The Warriors have taken their record to 69-9 and have one more game to go against the Spurs apart from Thursday’s game. This seems like an uphill task now as “The Spurs could become the first team to beat the Warriors twice”, notes ESPN. If the Warriors are to finish first in the Western Conference, they must beat the second placed Spurs (65-12).
Steph Curry, who failed to strike form against the Wolves, admitted that the Bulls’ record might be affecting their performance as it was hard to neglect the “history in the making” record.
“It can’t be an excuse that we put ourselves in this situation and now it’s draining us to finish,” Curry said. “I think we’re mature enough and have enough of an edge to get it done. We just have to figure it out.”
