Adidas seems furious after James Harden was spotted wearing a pair of Air Jordans, the brand’s competitor, despite of a new $200 million deal with the player which states he is not allow him to do so.
Harden had shifted from Nike to Adidas last month after signing 13-year $200m deal with them. However, the Houston Rockets shooting guard was seen coming out of a movie theater with his girlfriend Khloe Kardashian wearing Nike Air Jordans, reports TMZ.
Mark King of Adidas said that the deal clearly mentions that any ambassador is not allowed to wear a competitor’s product on or off-court.
“The difference between football and basketball is that a guy like Aaron Rodgers doesn’t have a walk-around shoe, Harden does, and he will be in our lifestyle stuff,” according to ESPN.
Adidas has strictly warned Harden to stop wearing his Jordans or any competitor’s product as per deal he signed with them.
The non-adherence of the company’s policies did not cost Harden anything as of yet. Unlike one of the cases reported by ESPN, where Reebok which is now under Adidas, had broken the contract with Shawn Kemp when he mentioned in an interview that he likes the quality of his Nike shoes.
Harden was lucky enough just to get a warning besides the fact that Adidas would not want to lose an endorser of his caliber.
Khloe Kardashian, Harden’s girl was wearing an Adidas sweatshirt as seen in the picture TMZ had posted.
As GQ states, the Adidas Contract with “The Beard” is effective from 1St October but the manufacturer who threw in a $200 million has asked him to follow it right away. The big man would find it really difficult to pack his comfortable Jordans and not touch them for 13 years, unless he is smart enough to wear them and not get spotted by Adidas.
