It will be the Cleveland Cavaliers vs the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day! A rematch between the 2014-15 NBA Finals teams is reported to be scheduled for the upcoming season’s special game day.
League sources revealed to ESPN that the NBA is planning to schedule a face off between the Cavs and GSW as the headliner of the annual December 25 games. While nothing has been confirmed, it makes sense to schedule the teams given the awesome Finals performance the two have showcased last season. And with star-packed rosters, the rematch will make for an exciting Holiday showcase.
The Cavaliers will be led by superstar LeBron James and recovering Kyrie Irving. Kevin Love has also re-signed with the team, giving the frontcourt an extra boost on offense. Matthew Dellavedova will also return for a stable backup point guard. No word yet on whether Tristan Thompson and JR Smith will sign back with the Cavs.
As for the Warriors, reigning MVP Steph Curry will lead the charge for a back-to-back title. Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Harrison Barnes and 2015 Finals MVP Andre Iguodala will also be aiming for another trophy.
The Golden State Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in six games to win the team’s first NBA championship in 40 years. LBJ averaged a double-double during the Finals with 35.8 points and 13.3 rebounds. However, in the end the Warriors took home the Larry O’Brien trophy.
The Christmas Day scheduled hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the league is expected to release the official 2015-16 NBA schedule next week, ESPN noted.
The Miami Herald previously reported that the Miami Heat will also face the New Orleans Pelicans at home on Christmas Day.
“That game would be on ESPN, with the 2:30 and 5 p.m. games on ABC,” the site added.
