The finale episode of “Mr. Robot” has been postponed due to its similarities to the Virginia TV shooting.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook account, USA Network wrote: “The previously filmed season finale of Mr. Robot contains a graphic scene similar in nature to today’s tragic events in Virginia. Out of respect to the victims, their families and colleagues, and our viewers, we are postponing tonight’s episode. Our thoughts go out to all those affected during this difficult time.”
Hollywood Reporter noted that the “Mr. Robot” scene in question shows an individual who was shot during a TV interview, similar on the shooting of WDBJ-TV reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward.
Parker was doing an interview during a live broadcast when the gunman, Vester Lee Flanagan, fatally shot her, Ward, and Vicki Gardner, the woman Parker was talking to at the time of the shooting.
The final episode of “Mr. Robot” for its debut season was supposed to air Wednesday night (Aug 26). USA Network decided to air the season’s penultimate episode instead.
This is not the first time an episode of a TV show had been delayed due to violent content that is similar to an actual incident.
In 1999, the finale of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” season three, which centered in high school shooting, was delayed for two months following the Columbine High School massacre in April 1999, New York Daily News noted.
“Mr. Robot” stars Rami Malek and Christian Slater. The show focuses on the life of a mentally unstable computer programmer turned vigilante hacker.
The promo teaser for its finale revealed that Elliot Alderson, played by Malek, has been plotting something against Evil Corp.
The video shows hacker group FSociety issuing a warning that the next stock market’s opening bell will be the “death knell” of Evil Corp.
People, wearing a similar mask that is seen in the warning message, were seen protesting against Evil Corp on the streets, the International Business Times wrote.
“The fall of Evil Corp will have adverse consequences for Allsafe Cybersecurity Company headed by Gideon Goddard (Michel Gill),” IB Times wrote.
The “Mr Robot” finale episode will air on Sept. 2 at 10 p.m.
