Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin played an “ill-fated” couple in “Me Before You.” But did their chemistry together really prove too much for the two actors? Did they end up dating after their on-screen romance?

According to Collider, neither Clarke nor Claflin has expressed interest in dating the other. However, their director, Thea Sharrock, thinks they make a very convincing couple. “The chemistry was just amazing,” Sharrock said. “When you walked into the room and they were there together.”

Bustle meanwhile reported that even the author who wrote the novel in which “Me Before You” is based on, said casting Clarke and Claflin was a “no-brainer.” JoJo Moyes was a bit nervous about it at first. But the pair eventually got her stamp of approval. “How can you not love seeing people who only existed in your head suddenly appear in the form of Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin?” Moyes said. “I could not have asked for two people who more embodied those characters… The problem I have now is they’ve supplanted the original characters I had in my head. I just see Sam and Emilia.”

Moyes also told Collider that Clarke and Claflin’s audition tape made her cry. “Thea sent me that audition tape with the chemistry read between Emilia and Sam,” the author recalled. “And I was sitting in a café in Paris, with my computer kind of turned away from everybody else. And I sat there I and watched it, and I just…  I was weeping in the café at eleven o’clock in the morning.”

Sharrock reportedly had her two lead actors rehearse “a key scene” from the movie. Moyes thought they hit it right out of the park with that first try. “I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s it, that’s it,’ and luckily the studio was in agreement,” the writer said.
