In a shocking case on Friday, a mother who hails from Sacramento, California is sentenced to 26 years of imprisonment for microwaving her infant daughter to death a few years back.

Ka Yang, a 34-year-old mother, put her one-month-old daughter, Mirabelle Thao-Lo, in the microwave for almost five minutes in March 2011. According to KCRA-TV, she is convicted of both assault and first degree murder. Toronto Sun reported that prosecutions say that the child got fatal thermal injuries and died. The baby suffered 80% burn injuries and there were radiation injuries which even damaged her internal organs. She was burnt from head to toe.

Yang’s attorney tried to defend her by stating that she had an epileptic seizure and not conscious when the accident happen.

Meanwhile, the mother told KCRA-TV that she never thought that she would lose her little daughter due to her ailment.

However, according to the Sacramento Bee, the paramedics reported that they did not find her disoriented when they arrived at the crime scene.

The NY Daily News confirmed that her affidavit reveals that when she was asked about the inconsistencies in her statement she admitted that she lied and she has a split personality disorder.

As reported by Sacramento Bee, the Sacramento county coroner has admitted that it was the worst case he has ever witnessed.

Steve White, Sacramento Superior Court Judge, rejected the appeal for retrial for Yang. The defense appeal to reduction of conviction from first degree murder to involuntary man slaughter is also rejected.

It is to be noted that Yang’s family members and her attorney Linda Parisi blame her persistent struggle with epilepsy for the little girl’s death. Parisi has also argued that Yang does not have a history of child abuse and criminal records.

Yang has three more sons who are staying with family members and relatives.
