Modern Family Season 8 is set to premiere next week, and one of the show’s young stars, Rico Rodriguez, has spilled some spoilers. He speaks about what to expect this season and shares his thoughts about growing up with his cast mates.
“Well, Manny will be a senior this year, which blows my mind because I’m going to be a senior, too!” says Rodriguez as he spoke exclusively with Wetpaint. He plays the character of Manny Delgado, the eccentric and overly sensitive son of Gloria Delgado-Pritchett (Sofia Vergara) from her first marriage.
Rodriguez started working on Modern Family when he was 11 years old back in 2009. Fans of the show have literally seen him grow up on screen. The same could be said about fellow cast members Ariel Winter and Nolan Gould, who play Alex and Luke Dunphy, respectively. The younger characters who have also expanded the cast over the years are Lily Tucker-Pritchett and Joe Pritchett.
Rico shares that he’s developed a close bond with both Winter and Gould since they spend a lot of time studying together on set. For Modern Family Season 8, he shares that Manny will be dealing with new challenges such as helping raise baby Joe and taking care of college applications. Winter’s character, Alex Dunphy, made her transition into college life on Season 7.
Elsewhere, ABC shares that the season will start with the return of Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), Cam (Eric Stonestreet) and Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) from their summer trip to Kentucky. Meanwhile, Jay (Ed O’Neill) will return to work and will have to adjust to working with Claire (Julie Bowen) again. Haley(Sarah Hyland) also gets more mature, as she deals with the loss of her first true love, Andy (Adam DeVine).
Modern Family Season 8 premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, at 9:00 pm ET on ABC.
