This week’s episode of Modern Family Season 8 is not just all about laughs. In an episode titled “A Stereotypical Day,” the Emmy Award-winning series cast a transgender child actor in a guest role for the first time. Here are some Episode 2 spoilers.

According to the synopsis shared by Disney ABC Press, Modern Family S08 E02 deals with discrimination, gender stereotypes and acceptance. The episode guide reads: “Cam and Mitchell have always felt they were the most open, non-judgmental and supportive parents. However, when they overhear Lily insulting her new friend, they have to take a quick look in the mirror before they teach her a lesson about acceptance.”

Modern Family has always dealt with the LGBT theme in the context of same-sex couple Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cameron Tucker (Eric Stonestreet). This time around, it will be their adopted daughter Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) who will be in the center of the issue.

Variety reports that eight-year-old transgender actor Jackson Millarker will be appearing as Lily’s friend Tom. Mitch and Cam will take the opportunity to teach their daughter about acceptance once they realize that growing up in their household has not been enough to prepare her for the situation.

Elsewhere, Jay Pritchett (Ed O’Neill) is also working hard to get the acceptance and approval of his new neighbors. Manny (Rico Rodriguez) also seeks acceptance from a “radical-thinking” teenage girl that he’s hoping to attract.

Meanwhile, the Dunphy household is turned around by Alex (Ariel Winter). She has a bout with mono and the rest of the family tries to use the illness to advance their own agenda in some way.

Modern Family Season 8 Episode 2 titled “A Stereotypical Day” airs on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2016. The show starts at 9:00 pm ET on ABC.
