Modern Family Season 8 star Ariel Winter hates her TV character when it comes to one thing that Alex Dunphy is known for.
The 18-year-old actress opened up about how she has enjoyed playing the role for seven years and at the same time hating Alex’s choices.
Winter said it has been “pretty cool” that her life has some resemblance on Alex’s life. Both of them struggle to find friends and also learn how to accept rejection. Winter has played Phil (Ty Burrell) and Claire’s (Julie Bowen) middle child in Modern Family since it premiered in 2009.
She also admitted to Entertainment Tonight that there is one downside in playing Alex – her wardrobe choices. “The only thing that I don’t love about Alex is her sweaters. And plaid is not my favorite but that’s okay. Other than that, Alex is pretty great!” she said.
The young actress also talked about her struggle with her body image. Winter said her fellow female co-stars in the Emmy-winning comedy show helped her accept her appearance. She cited Sofia Vergara (Gloria Pritchett) as one of her role models for embracing her looks.
Earlier this year, Winter revealed that she underwent breast reduction surgery last year. She made headlines at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in January when she wore an open-backed gown that revealed her surgical scars. She made it clear that she did not have surgery because of the negative comments about her curvy figure. Winter explained that she suffered from physical pain because of being a full-figured young lady.

Winter also revealed that she has put her college on hold until next year because of Modern Family. She got accepted to UCLA and will start her classes in 2017.
She told People magazine earlier this year that she wants to be a lawyer. Winter, however, added that she will not quit acting. There were also reports that Winter would not be returning for Season 8. Winter confirmed that Alex will come back. In fact, the smart teen will take more duties at Caltech this season.
