The Miss Universe Pageant may be half a year away yet it’s already making quite a buzz. Last year’s pageant made a mark when Steve Harvey committed the worst blunder that could happen in an event. He announced the wrong name as the Miss Universe winner.

During the announcement, two girls left vying for the highly coveted Miss Universe title stood anxiously at the center stage. Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez and Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach held hands as they waited for the announcement. As the cameras panned towards Miss Philippines, Steve Harvey then announced Miss Colombia as Miss Universe 2015.

Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega from Colombia proceeded to transfer the crown to Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez. However, as Ariadna was waving to the crowd, Steve Harvey came back out and corrected his mistake. Steve Harvey made the first ever mistake of announcing the wrong Miss Universe winner.

Almost half a year has passed after the announcement debacle. Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach is halfway done with her Miss Universe duties. To make up for the lost crowning moment, Miss Universe has decided to stage the pageant in the Philippines.

To even make it more interesting, Steve Harvey will once again host the Miss Universe pageant. For his part, Steve Harvey wants to do it as a way of apologizing to the Filipino people who were hurt about the incident.

Meanwhile, the President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte has said he will not spend a single centavo on the pageant. When the president first learned about it, he first thought of the budget needed for hosting the event. However, Philippine Department of Tourism confirmed the event will not use public funds, Rappler reports. Instead, private individuals such as casino mogul Kazuo Okada and the richest man in the Philippines, Henry Sy will sponsor the event.

The Philippines first hosted the Miss Universe pageant in 1974 and came back in 1994. For the second time, Miss Universe will have the reigning Miss Universe from the Philippines pass the crown to incoming Miss Universe. Filipino viewers will surely hope that Miss Philippines will win the crown again. Hopefully, this time around Steve Harvey will announce the right Miss Universe pageant winner and finally do things right.
