Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach stood as the most beautiful woman in the universe as she has been crowned as Miss Universe 2015 in Las Vegas tonight.
However, what supposed to be the most monumental moment for Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez became awkward after Miss Universe 2015 host Steve Harvey announced her as the new Miss Universe.
Harvey made the biggest blunder on television after announcing Miss Colombia as the new Miss Universe instead of Miss Philippines.
After Colombia took her first walk, Harvey stopped the festive mood and admitted the mistake. The host took responsibility for the error and announced Miss Philippines as the rightful owner of the Miss Universe crown.
Wurtzbach was visibly shocked when the “correction” in the announcement was made.
The final result is – Miss Universe 2015 is Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, and her court Miss Colombia (first runner-up) and Miss USA Olivia Jordan (second runner-up).
Miss Philippines earlier had a little issue with her dress and seemingly slipped. But no one probably noticed it after she handled it with so much grace and confidence, just like a true Miss Universe.
Wurtzbach reigned over 82 other ladies, between ages 19 and 27, who represented their respective countries in the most prestigious beauty pageant in the world.
Pia is a Filipino-German actress, model, host, TV personality, chef, beauty writer, stylist, and makeup artist.
She is no stranger to beauty pageants. She has been a three-time Binibining Pilipinas contestant. In 2013, she finished first runner-up; top 15 last year and eventually winning the Miss Philippines-Universe title this year and represented the country in the Ms Universe pageant at the Planet Hollywood resort in Las Vegas, Las Vegas.
She now follows in the footsteps of Filipina Miss Universe winners Gloria Diaz (1969) and Margarita Moran (1973), Rappler noted.
This year’s competition has been swirled with controversy following Donald Trump’s comments about immigrants, which created a backlash.
The pageant goes on and returned on a new network, with a new Spanish-language broadcaster and a new pageant owner.
