Microsoft has long been anticipated to launch the next generation of its popular Surface Pro 4. The tech company is rumored to have postponed the Surface Pro 5 release date to September.
There are contradictory reports on the probable launch date of Microsoft’s next generation of Surface Pro hybrid laptop. Two possible Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date have been tipped, one in June and the other in September.
The all-new Surface Pro 5 would likely hit the market in September as reported by Northern Voices Online. However, the Redmond-based tech giant has not yet announced the official release date of Surface Pro 5.
The main reason behind the delay seems to be the new Intel Kaby Lake chipsets, which is said to be unveiled this fall. Microsoft is speculated to rope in Intel’s 7th generation of Kaby Lake processor for its new Microsoft Surface Pro 5. The current Surface Pro 4 lineup is powered by Intel’s latest Skylake processors.
The new generation of Intel processor is believed to enhance the battery life the new Surface Pro 5. The Surface Pro 4 battery life drops significantly with demanding tasks like streaming videos on Netflix as compared to other Android tablets, according to Trusted Reviews.
The company is also expected to ship the new Surface Pro 5 with a larger battery unit placing it on par with Apple’s iPad Pro.
With the new Surface Pro 5, Microsoft will reportedly introduce 4K display resolution which will result in a stunning resolution of 3840 X 2160 pixels. The current generation of Surface Pro 4 features a 12.3-inch display which carries a resolution of 2736×1824 pixels.
Moreover, the new Surface Pro 5 may also come packed with a fingerprint scanner on board, which is not present in its predecessor. Customers can separately purchase a Type Cover with a fingerprint sensor for the Surface Pro 4.
Other rumored features of the new Surface Pro 5 include a rechargeable Surface Pen, USB Type-C port and microSD slot for memory expansion.
It is worth noting that Apple is also expected to launch its MacBook Pro 2016 line-up sometime in the last quarter of the year. The tech giant is believed to equip the new MacBook Pro with a new OLED touchpad above its keyboard.
