After a year filled with personal tragedies, pro surfer Mick Fanning and his wife have decided to part ways.

The pro surfer experienced a year filled with personal tragedies, from the demise of his brother Peter to the experience of fending off a great white shark. The shark attack left the pro surfer considering retiring from competing. Thankfully, the pro surfer returned to the waves, but ironically, he had to fight off another shark attack upon his return to the sport. Since his experiences, however, Mick Fanning became a champion for shark attack victims across the globe.

In a Facebook post, Mick Fanning expressed that he would like to clear any ambiguity about the personal matter, noting the speculations about their impending divorce in 2015. The pro surfer was clear in pointing out that he and ex-wife Karissa Dalton had done their best in trying to work out their marriage. In the end, the couple had to part ways.

Fanning requested for privacy on the matter and the Facebook post has since been deleted. However, GrindTV still has a copy of the post.

For a man who has survived much in 2015, fans can only hope for better things ahead for the surfing pro. An outpouring of support from his fans can be seen on the comments on his Facebook Page.

On winning the 3rd Place at the 2015 Surfer Poll awards, fan Sherilee Hunter said, “First or Third. Doesnt matter to us. You are a legend in our eyes.” On his post about his brother’s demise, fan Marcia Kearney said, “Mick … Australia loves you, and Australia is so very proud of you, but today our hearts are so very sad that your family is undergoing another tragedy. Know that our thoughts are with you all … and please keep hugging your Mum.”

Mick Fanning seems to be bent on focusing on his career and advocacies, as evidenced by the content on his official Facebook Page.
