News of former NBA superstar Michael Jordan’s death went viral earlier last week causing apprehension among his fans across the globe. However, the information has now been confirmed as a complete hoax. It is the latest one in a string of fake celebrity death reports. The fans will be more than happy to know that the retired professional basketball legend is alive and absolutely hale and hearty.

Rumors of the Jordan’s alleged death spread quickly on Saturday after a Facebook page captioned it as “R.I.P. Michael Jordan.” The post promptly  attracted nearly one million of “likes.”  On top of that, to make people believe  the player’s death, the page also gave an authentic account of the American basketball player’s unexpected death:

“At about 11 a.m. ET on Saturday (April 23, 2016), our beloved basketball player Michael Jordan passed away. Michael Jordan was born on February 17, 1963 in New York. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page.”

Hundreds of fans soon began to overflow social media space with their messages of condolence. Jordan’s fan base started to mourn over the loss of their beloved talented 53-year-old basketball player. In addition, as anticipated, Twitter-sphere was furious over the death hoax, reports Media Mass.

While a number of innocent fans believed the post, others became skeptical of the report. They probably have learned their lessons from a series of death hoaxes emerging about celebrities over recent months. A few smartly figured it out as a fake story, since none of the major American networks was discussing anything about it. Basketball player Michele Jordan is a renowned figure of our era and the news of his death would be major news across networks.

Last Sunday, April 24, Jordan’s spokespersons officially confirmed that he is not dead.  Confirming the news they stated, “He joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax. He’s still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet.”

A few fans have expressed rage at the fake news saying it was reckless, stressful, and hurtful to fans of the much-loved basketball player. Others take it positively saying that the hoax proved Jordan’s extreme popularity across the world.

We wish the legendary player a happy healthy long life!
