Robert Downey Jr. appears in Marvel movies here and there, but a standalone Iron Man 4 movie may be far from the studio plans at the moment.
In the MCU Phase 3 lineup, the absence of Iron Man 4 was noticeable. Clearly, this is not about how much revenue it can rake in. The Iron Man franchise has been a consistent worldwide hit since its first installment in 2008.
The Phase 3 lineup offers a glimpse of hope for fans though. Marvel has teased that there are three movies that are yet to be titled and will debut in 2020. Fans of the man in the iron suit are hoping that one of these is Iron Man 4. “Finally, three untitled Marvel Studios films will premiere on May 1, 2020, July 10, 2020 and November 6, 2020,” Marvel wrote in the release.
MCU Phase 3 kicked off with Captain America: Civil War and will end with a sequel to The Avengers: Infinity War in 2019.
Meanwhile, there have been reports that Marvel Studios is yet to issue a confirmation of Iron Man 4 since Downey Jr. and the studio failed to reach an agreement about the actor’s salary. Downey Jr. reportedly earned $24 million in the third installment of the movie.
Rumors have it that Tony Stark will also die in the upcoming The Avengers: Infinity War movie. Stark will apparently pass on his suit to 15-year-old genius Riri Williams. The character was first teased in the Civil War. In the movie, Stark said he has been looking for a genius scholar at MIT.
There was also speculation that Iron Man 4 is still coming after RDJ shared a photo with director Jon Favreau and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently. The actor said Favreau and Chef Roy Choi are working on a new project. Favreau had directed two Iron Man movies.
Fans could catch the iconic character in the upcoming Marvel movies. Spiderman Homecoming will hit theaters on July 7, 2017. The Avengers: Infinity War will debut on May 4, 2018.
