Is “Lip Sync Battle” about to get irrelevant? The musical reality show where lip syncing celebrities battle each other has proven quite popular. But what are lip sync battles compared to actual singing? The popular “Carpool Karaoke” sees top artists belting out their favourite songs from the passenger seat. Has the segment trended enough that a TV spin-off is now in the works?
“Carpool Karaoke” started out as just a segment for James Corden’s “Late Late Show.” But according to Digital Spy, it might become bigger than a segment soon. Corden and producer Ben Winston have reportedly been pitching a spin-off show based on the popular segment.
“Carpool Karaoke” has proven to be a really big hit for Corden’s show. According to Digital Spy, the segment “racked up more than 400 million YouTube views” for the show. Previous guests on the segment include Adele, One Direction, Justin Bieber and Coldplay’s Chris Martin. Adele’s Carpool appearance with Corden earlier became viral on social media. Reports say that part 2 may even be in the works. Could the “Hello” singer be the TV Spin-off’s first guest?
There’s potential bad news for fans who tune in specifically for Corden, though. The late night show host might not be taking the wheel for the spin-off. According to Entertainment Weekly, Corden only plans to produce the show. He will be leaving the driving (and back-up singing) to someone else. “A host would be named once a deal with a network is struck,” EW reported.
“Lip Sync Battle” is also based on a popular segment on another night talk show. It was previously just a recurring segment on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” Beyonce’s surprise appearance on “Lip Sync Battle” earlier broke the internet. The “Formation” songstress crashed actor Channing Tatum’s lip sync performance of “Run The World.”
