Japan looked to be bagging their first win with an 11-point advantage coming into the half. However, New Zealand cam back in the third overcoming the deficit with the help of Ray Turner, Eric Devendorf and Kevin Braswell who helped provide 66 points, 23 rebounds and 9 assists, Bleacher Report noted.
Japan’s Joji Takeuchi scored 23 points and grabbed 13 boards but it wasn’t enough for the team to bag their first win.
As for Gilas Pilipinas, the loss of Andray Blatche was most felt at yesterday’s match against Iran, with the towering Hamed Haddadi dominating the pain with 22 points and 15 rebounds, Bleacher Report wrote.
Philippines stalwart Terrence Romeo saw limited minutes after twisting his ankle in the second half. Playing his fifth straight game in five days, fatigue may have affected Romeo leading to the injury.

With a 3-2 slate, a win against New Zealand will be crucial for the Filipinos to stay in championship contention. As for the Wellington Saints, a win will give them a fair record of 3-3.
