Another shocking split rocked Tinseltown as news of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s divorce spread. Did the dog-smuggling incident lead to their split after just 15 months of marriage?
Actress Amber Heard filed for divorce on May 22, TMZ reported. The report comes at a bittersweet time for the actor after his beloved mother’s death on May 20 and the upcoming premiere of “Alice Through the Looking Glass” on May 27.
Court documents dated May 22 cited irreconcilable differences as the reason behind the divorce and Heard also asked for spousal support. However, Depp has asked the judge to reject her claim for support, the publication updated. The couple reportedly does not have a pre-nup.
Prior to their private wedding in February 2015 at Depp’s Little Hall’s Pond Cay in the Bahamas, the couple wed in Los Angeles so his sick mother could attend, Mail Online recalled. The couple met while filming “The Rum Diary,” the Mirror wrote. Depp revealed the reason he married Heard was that she got “into his head.”
“She was in my head, so I tracked her down. We tracked each other down. Actually, incidentally, it was amazing. It was at the first day of press on The Rum Diary. Then we married that very day!” Depp once said.
Unfortunately, their recent tiff Down Under might be the most memorable event in the couple’s marriage, the Mail Online noted. At the time, Heard faced trial in Australia for smuggling their two dogs into the country on a private jet. The verdict led to the couple’s infamous pro-quarantine video shared by Australian Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce.
Their cringe-worthy confession, Mail Online described, sparked the craziest reactions on social media. It also generated numerous mock apology videos. The dog-smuggling incident continued to haunt Johnny Depp. In a press conference for “Alice Through the Looking Glass” in London, the actor poked fun at the matter and apologised for not smuggling his dogs into England instead. However, his actions might have reignited his feud with Australian DPM Joyce who commented on the actor’s recent remarks.
This would be the third divorce for Johnny Depp following his split from French actress Vanessa Paradis in 2012. Before that, he was married to Lori Anne Allison until 1985, Mail Online wrote.
