The fist season of Jessica Jones ended last year but fans might have to wait a little longer to find out what happens next. Jessica Jones Season 2 won’t air for another two years. However, will the iconic comic book P.I. actually return earlier to set up another Marvel series for Netflix? Has the hit show’s creator let slip what’s in store for Jessica next season?
Marvel’s The Defenders will debut on Netflix next year. Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg didn’t say exactly how Jessica Jones can help introduce the new series. However, she did say that an overlap between the two shows is still on the table. A tie in is still possible since, as Rosenberg pointed out, her team works just “across the hall” from The Defenders team.
“What’s nice for us over on our side of the hall, is if we think — we’re still shaping what we want to do, but we’re like, maybe we can set them up over in The Defenders. Let’s go talk to [Defenders showrunners] Doug [Petrie] and Marco [Ramirez], and we’re like, ‘Hey, what do you think about this?'” Rosenberg said in an interview with IGN. “[W]e can really get into some very interesting aspects of their characters and where they’re from, where they’re going, all these things. I’m super excited about that.”

Rosenberg didn’t give out too much detail about the plot of the show’s next installment though. The first season of Jessica Jones got a lot of story material from Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos’ original Alias comic book arc. Fans have already begun guessing just how much future episodes will explore things outside the source material. According to ComicBook.com, the next season could even explore the supporting characters in Jessica Jones’ orbit. However, one character Rosenberg won’t explore again anytime soon is the first season’s Big Bad, Kilgrave.
Jessica Jones Season 2 will return to Netflix in 2018.
