Britney Spears will appear as herself in season two of CW’s hit “Jane the Virgin.”
The pop princess confirmed the news herself on Twitter and tweeted show’s lead stars Gina Rodriguez and Jaime Camil.
Rodriguez, who plays Jane, tweeted back and expressed her excitement about the new addition to the Golden Globe-winning drama-comedy series.
Jaime Camill, who portrays Jane’s dad Rogelio, shared a welcoming tweet for Britney. Rodriguez’s on-screen leading man Justin Baldoni also welcomed the singer to the show.
“Jane the Virgin” showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman also tweeted and described Spears’ appearance in the show as a “dream come true.”
Urman also said in a statement that Spears will appear in the fifth episode of season two as Rogelio’s “nemesis,” USA Today wrote.
“We’re really excited. We have a backstory, it turns out she is a real nemesis of Rogelio’s, but the sort of quality of their attraction is a little bit in dispute between what Rogelio thinks and what Britney thinks,” Urman told PEOPLE during the Television Critics Association panel this week.
CW president Mark Pedowitz also told reporters at TCA that once they found out that the pop singer is a fan of “Jane the Virgin”, they immediately asked her to join the show, Us Magazine wrote.
“To their credit, and to Britney’s credit, she decided she’d come do it,” he said.
Spears, 33, has openly expressed that the CW series is one of her favorite shows on television.
In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, the former “X Factor” judge said: “I get really into Jane the Virgin. It’s fun.”
USA Today noted the “Oops! I did It Again” hitmaker had made appearances in several hit television series such as “How I Met Your Mother” in 2008 and “Will and Grace” in 2006. She also starred in movies such as “Crossroads”, “Longshot”, and “Pauly Shore Is Dead”.
“Jane the Virgin” season 2 will premiere on Oct. 12 on CW.
