James Bond New 007 Cancelled; Craig Still On For Two Films

James Bond

Sony Pictures is pretty dedicated in keeping its latest golden Bond boy. So dedicated in the sense that recent reports suggest it is much willing to raise the offer for Daniel Craig’s return. If they succeed, it means candidates for the next James Bond will have to wait.

News of the massive offer comes from Radar Online. According to the source, the studio is offering Craig a massive $150 million in exchange for him reprising the role for two more Bond films.

MovieWeb recalls that this offer is bigger than another offer back in May. The website details that the offer stood at $100 million back then. However, news outlets at the time reported that the actor turned down the deal.

Reports cited that he didn’t have any interest in making another Bond film. This then launched a firestorm as to who could be the next Bond. Since then, big names like Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston and even younger Theo James made the betting rounds.

Daniel Craig simply being James Bond

Furthermore, according to Radar Online’s anonymous source, the move from Sony relays their desperation. Meanwhile, the source also says that it was a stroke of genius for Craig’s part.

Radar Online quotes their source as saying:

“The studio is desperate to secure the actor’s services while they phase in a younger long-term successor. … [Craig] has played a genius hand. Everyone knows how much executives adore him, and the idea of losing him at such a crucial time in the franchise isn’t an option as far as all the studio honchos are concerned.”

True enough, if Craig’s denial of another Bond film is only a ploy to get more out of his future contract, then it’s a success. However, if he is sincere in wanting to “slash his wrists” instead of returning as Bond, then Sony has bigger problems.

Of course, Sony could just hire a replacement any time. Still, one would see the point as to why the studio would want Craig to return. Aside from him being a Bond favorite, his Bond films also brought massive profit–even more than the other Bond films carried by his predecessors.
