The iPhone 7 line may have only launched recently. However, that does not stop iPhone 8 leaks from making it to the rumor mill. A recent round of leaks on the next generation iPhone surfaced again. This time, it is about a feature that one of its fierce competitors currently sport.
An article featured in Yahoo! Tech details that with the iPhone 8, the Apple devices could finally feature OLED screens. The article cites a report from Bloomberg detailing Apple’s current negotiations with Sharp. Although this news alone is interesting, the source highlights that Apple’s rival, Samsung, already had this tech in its devices.
True enough, the Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, and the Note 7 all carry the Super AMOLED panel.
The incorporation of OLED would certainly boost display on future iPhones. However, the article notes that it could also improve another problem area known to the devices. This area pertains to the battery life of an iPhone. According to the article, battery life of iPhones could potentially improve given that OLED displays take less drain.
iPhone 8 leaks and other rumors
Featuring an OLED screen is only one of the many “leaks” and rumors that surfaced regarding the iPhone 8.
Earlier, a number of sites relayed another new feature that could make its way to iPhone 8. 9 to 5 Mac relays that the next iPhone “could feature glass on both the front and back with a stainless steel option for premium models.”
Though this is unconfirmed for now, the site quotes this forecast from Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities. Kuo has a history of being spot on with anything Apple related. Still, it’s best to take this information with a grain of salt. After all, it’s still a long way before the next device. There’s still a big room for any changes.
In addition to these rumors, BGR shares that the iPhone 8 could also drastically remove the iconic home button. Instead, the TouchID fingerprint scanner will find its way into the display.
However, as mentioned, iPhone 8 is still a long way to go. The road to that day will feature more leaks and rumors. Some of those could contradict early ones. Hence, take everything for a fact just yet.
