Pangu has done it! They have released the jailbreak for iOS 9.
The last time around they were heard to be holding on to the jailbreak updates in order to one-up on Apple and get past the company dropping firmware updates at any point of time.
Pangu, a Chinese hacking team, has released the jailbreak that allows for installing Cydia, as reported by TechCrunch.
Cydia is a framework which gives users the liberty to tweak the iOS and unofficially run apps and packages which otherwise wouldn’t work. The jailbreak will give users access to “Windows software package,” eliminating the need to plug in the device to the computer.
According to the Verge, the iOS9 jailbreak would also give an “effective preview” of 3D Touch and Live Photos on all iPhone devices, which currently only iPhone 6S series users enjoy. This could be reason enough for many to download it.
However, those planning to go ahead and jailbreak their iOS devices should be aware that many applications and changes are still in the works and are not ready, as shared by ModMyi.com.
Additionally, the list of neat tweaks that come with the jailbreak include RoundDock, BatteryLife, betterFourbyFourFolders, CC Deseparator and flux, as showcased in a video by iCrackUriDevice.
As TechCruch rightly points out, it is advised that users tread with caution when deciding to jailbreak the iPhones since it makes their devices more vulnerable to security threats and malware.
Whether it be the YiSpecto or the KeyRaider malware, jailbroken phones reportedly become the easy targets. The latter malware also made attempts to gather confidential data such as account names and passwords amongst other information.
iPhone users may already be aware that jailbreaking their devices would violate the End User License Agreement. So, jailbroken phones won’t be able to enjoy the warranty on the devices or receive any support from Apple.
For those still wanting to go ahead and jailbreak their smartphones can head here.
The devices, which can run the jailbreak, read out to be the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 series as well as iPhone 6 and 6S series. Additionally, the iPad 2,3 and 4 as well as the Air and Air 2 along with iPad mini and iPad mini 2,3,4 as well as iPods – 5th and 6th generations can run it.
