New Zealand will take on Pakistan in their Group 2 World T20 match at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Tuesday, March 22, starting 7:30 pm local time and 2:30 pm GMT.
As per the ESPN sources, New Zealand started off their campaign as the “underdogs” in the World T20 tournament. But they are now being considered as serious title contenders. They thumped the host country, India, by 47 runs in their opening match and then went on to beat Australia by 8 runs in Dharamsala. They now look forward to clinch the semi-final spot against erratic Pakistan.
New Zealand coach Mike Hesson is not taking the game lightly, though. He says, “They are unpredictable but very skilful. We are fortunate to have played them recently. Whether that makes them less predictable or just gives us more information. As a batting unit, they are relatively predictable in the way they play and that gives us more opportunity with the ball.”
As per the ICC official reports, Pakistan started the campaign on a positive note. They beat Bangladesh comprehensively in the opening match at Eden Gardens Kolkata. But India came back strongly in the second match to beat Pakistan in the high-voltage clash, last weekend.
Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi comments, “In cricket, generally the team that makes fewer mistakes wins. India made fewer mistakes than us. We have to cut down on our mistakes.”
Afridi will look to rally his troops if they are to move on to the semi-final spot.
