Shoaib Malik ensured Pakistan reach a mammoth total against the English Side on the second day of their first test in Abu Dhabi. He starred with a maiden test double century in the first inning on Wednesday to post a massive score and then declaring at 523 for 8, equipped with Shoaib’s 245 and equally brilliant Asad Shafiq’s 107.

Chasing Pakistan’s first inning total of 523, Alastair Cook and Moeen Ali batted solidly to end the second day at 56 with no wickets lost. Captain Cook is unbeaten at 39 and Ali still at the crease with 15 runs as England trail by 467 runs when they come to bat on Day three at Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

Coming in the third over of the match, Shoaib took command of Pakistan’s inning continuing, his stand through to the second day with a overnight score of 124. Starting day two at 286 for 4, he along with Rashid frustrated the English Bowlers as they piled up 213 runs in the first two sessions.   England missed too many chances and the Pakistani Batsmen made good fortune of the errors committed.

Ben Stokes was the most successful bowler for the English side with 4 for 57 as both spinners – Rashid and Moeen, struggled to put pressure on the opponent. Rashid recorded the worst bowling debut as he went wicketless in his 34 overs conceding 163 runs, reported ICC.

The English side has to bat really well to thwart Pakistan’s pace-cum-spin attack on a pitch that didn’t really help bowlers in the first two days. Well, it will be interesting to note how the pitch behaves in the remainder of the test match.
