The suspended Auburn Council Deputy Mayor Salim Mehajer has been cleared of stalking and intimidating charges. Personal trainer, Bruce Herat accused Mehajer of threatening to track down his address and kidnap his children following an argument. The local court dismissed all the charges against Mehajer.
Twenty-nine-year-old Mehajer provided evidence in a Sydney court justifying his statement that he was courteous to the personal trainer of a western Sydney gym.
Mehajer previously said that he was trying to “escape” public life by training away from his neighbourhood. Instead, he ended up entering into an argument with Herat, as reported by news.com.au.
Bruce Herat claimed that Mehajer swore at him and said, “don’t you know who I am?” He also accused the deputy mayor followed him to the car park and threatened to kidnap his children.
However, Mehajer denied any of these accusations, reported ABC. He claimed that their first interaction happened in the weights area of the gym. According to him, he was “peacefully working out” when Herat behaved aggressively.
Contrary to Mehajer’s claim prosecutor suggested that it was Mehajer who was behaving aggressively.
Mehajer admitted that he followed Herat to the car park but it was because he wanted to talk to him regarding his membership status. He told the court, “I said, ‘were you serious about cancelling my membership?’ and he said ‘yes’ and something along the lines of making my life miserable.”
He further stated, “[Mr Herat] said ,”‘you’re the guy who had that wedding.”
Notably, Mehajer’s extravagant wedding hit the bulls eyes a month earlier. His ostentatious wedding involved four helicopters, a fighter jet flyover, sports cars worth $50 million, a sea-plane, street closures and a performance by ARIA award-winning songstress Missy Higgins.”
Magistrate Alexender Mijovich said that he found both Herat and Mehajer to be reliable witnesses.
He stated, “The issues in dispute are the conversations and they are diametrically opposed.”
He further stated, “I’m totally satisfied something has occurred in the car park – as to actually what was said or otherwise I can’t convict on suspicion.”
However, the AVO against Salim Mehajer to remain away from Herat will not be withdrawn for 12 months.
