‘Hunger Games’ Prequel Casts New Katniss Everdeen? Jennifer Lawrence Not ‘Involved’

Hunger Games Prequel

Is a new “Hunger Games” movie in the works? “Mockingjay – Part 2” was the last movie based on Suzanne Collins’ popular young adult trilogy. It was supposed to be the last movie of the franchise. But reports suggest this might not be the case for too long. Could a prequel movie really be in the works?

According to Movie News Guide, a “Hunger Games” prequel might be shot and released soon. This, statements from Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer and Vice Chairman Michael Burns seem to imply. Both executives are reportedly looking forward to making more movies based on the series.

Feltheimer reportedly said the idea for another movie has indeed been pitched to him. Burns meanwhile said they are leaning toward making a prequel. A prequel might benefit the audience members who might be interested in seeing “the other arenas,” the film news site said.

There is no official word yet as to if or when production for the prequel would begin. However, should the project push through, they might have to do with Jennifer Lawrence. The “Catching Fire” actress earlier told Vanity Fair that she is not interested. “I wouldn’t be involved,” the actress said, “I think it’s too soon. They’ve got to let the body get cold, in my opinion,”

She would not be “dusting off the bow and arrows for rumored prequels to the series that made her a star,” Vanity Fair reported. The Oscar-winning actress played Collins’ lead character, Katniss Everdeen, in previous films. Who will play Katniss in the prequel? Stay tuned for updates.

“Mockingjay – Part 2” was supposed to be “the end of the franchise,” according to Vanity Fair. It was released on November 2015. The young adult franchise has been mostly successful in attracting audiences at the box-office. However, “Mockingjay – Part 2” saw the lowest debut for the franchise.
