‘Hunger Games’ Katniss to Star in ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ TV Series Reboot?

Katniss Everdeen of the “Hunger Games” is a strong female figure who symbolizes that women are equally capable with men to fight for themselves.

This may be the primary reason why the character is a major inspiration for producers of the upcoming “Xena: Warrior Princess” reboot.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the reboot of the 1990s TV series will feature a more modern Xena. To achieve this, the website details that the new lead actress must have the charisma and charm of the original Xena herself, Lucy Lawless.

Lawless played the female warrior out on a quest to redeem herself for six seasons (from 1995 to 2001).

Apart from the characteristics of the actress, THR also reports that the new Xena must have the smarts of Katniss from the “Hunger Games” because the producers are looking for a superhero who is smart and sophisticated.

However, although these reports suggest that a new actress will be cast to play Xena, We Got This Covered does not dismiss the fact that Lawless herself could reprise her role in the planned series. The website takes note that Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi are on board the reboot, both of whom were responsible for creating the original series. Hence, the website considers the involvement of the two as a potential attraction for Lawless to take on the project.

In addition, We Got This Covered also mentions that Lawless and Raimi are currently collaborating on the comedy horror series “Ash vs Evil Dead” so it is not far-fetched for the two to also collaborate on the Xena reboot.

As per the project’s progress, Deadline reports Javier Grillo-Marxuach is on board to pen the script of the series. The website notes that Grillo-Marxuach’s previous prominent involvement was with the prominent TV series “Lost”. He also recently served as a co-executive producer on the science fiction thriller series “Helix”.

The “Xena: Warrior Princess” reboot is eyed for a 2016 release date.
