A man dubbed the horror dentist in France has been jailed for eight years for causing mutilations to many patients. He has been found guilty of fraud and assault.
Dutch dentist, Jacobus Van Nierop is also banned from practising as a dentist and fined €10,500 ($15511) for performing “useless and painful” procedures on about 100 patients.
Around 100 plaintiffs filed cases against Nierop ranges from multiple healthy teeth removal, abscesses, recurrent infection, drill bits left in their gums and teeth and misshapen mouth, reported The Sydney Morning Herald.
Prosecutor Lucile Jaillon-Bru told the court in Nevers that the “horror dentist” “took pleasure” in causing pain.”
The court also heard how the 52-year-old dentist left many of his patients with “mutilations” or “permanent disabilities” between 2009 and 2012.
Sixty-five-year-old, Sylviane Boulesteix, said that she was called to the dentist’s office in May 2012 and Nierop pulled 8 of her teeth there and immediately fixed dentures on the raw gums. She claimed that blood was gushing from her gums and she sat in the clinic for hours in that state, reported Independent. Nierop also refused to give her any pain relief.
Another victim Marie-Jo Lemoine, said, “It’s silly to say that but I say it: It feels good. He will have time to think about us. But, as for the rest, nothing has changed regarding what we’ll be given in terms of compensation. It won’t be enough to repair the harm he caused.”
During the trial, it has also been revealed that Neirop has forged documents to practice dentistry in France after there were disciplinary proceedings against him in the Netherlands.
The horror dentist Nierop’s lawyer Delphine Morin-Meneghe, on the other hand, said that her client is responsible for some bad procedures but he did not do anything intentionally or commit cold-blooded violence against his patients.
According to psychiatrists, Nierop shows narcissistic pervert personality and does not have any moral sense. They said that he cannot feel compassion.
Recently, a doctor in Australia had to face backlash over his chiropractic treatment, where a video shows him cracking a newborn’s back.
