“High School Musical” cast reunited in a special episode to celebrate the film’s 10th year. Yes, it has been 10 years since we first saw how Troy Bolton (Zac Efron) and Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens) met. If you think you’ve got those nostalgia feels, the Wildcats likewise felt “surreal” to be back.
Hudgens revealed in the special,
“It is so surreal being here. It is crazy to me that ten years has gone by, and I see this cast and I feel like it was yesterday. I still love them so much, from the bottom of my heart. It was such a whirlwind – it’s just the best memories.”
As mentioned on Billboard, a reunion took place last weekend between Wildcats Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu, and Monique Coleman. The original cast members reminisced about being on set and admitted their reactions towards the phenomenal movie.
Ashley Tisdale, who played Sharpay Evans on the film, recalled how she reacted to director/choreographer Kenny Ortega’s vision.
“His vision was insane. When I read the script, I thought that it was a cute movie, but every day I would come to set, there was a detail that he would put into the scene that you would never think of. Just his vision and his ideas and being so creative were just so inspiring. He really was the heart of this movie.”
Meanwhile, actress Monique Coleman shared how “High School Musical” brought change to her life. In an Instagram post, Coleman mentioned her humble beginnings. She also revealed how hard work, sacrifice, and her faith helped her achieved her dreams.
10 years ago, 🐾 I came home from filming High School Musical to an empty bank account and a 3 day eviction notice on my apartment door. I didn't even watch the movie on my own television because I couldn't afford the Disney Channel….instead I watched it with kids I was babysitting for $10/hr. I didn't have a passport. I'd never recorded a song & I was collecting unemployment. I remember that one of my greatest aspirations was to be able to shop at Whole Foods. 🌟 I share this to remind you that dreams do comes true! They rarely come without sacrifice, hard work, and a faith that closely resembles insanity….but they do come true. Cherish the journey. Enjoy the struggles. And most of all, believe in yourself with all your heart ❤️ #HSM10
According to Entertainment Weekly, Hudgens knew that the film would become a global hit. Speaking to EW Radio, the actress said,
“It was a series of things like hitting No. 1 on Billboard, going platinum, going to London and having fans shake our cars back and forth like we were the Beatles. It was one crazy, crazy thing after the other.”
Meanwhile, Zac Efron will appear via pre-taped footage. The actor’s busy schedule made it impossible for him to join the reunion. Although fans were displeased at Efron’s absence, the actor posted a shoutout to his fans.
Of course, “Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat.”
