It’s already been 10 years since the “High School Musical!” How can anyone forget the shy Gabriella Montez, the singing Wildcats captain Troy Bolton, the grand musical numbers and everything that happened? Ew reports that the cast of this immensely successful TV movie is coming together to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Disney’s “High School Musical.”
In an official statement, Disney said that the original cast that consists of Vanessa Hudgens (Gabriella Montez), Ashley Tisdale (Sharpay Evans), Lucas Grabeel (Ryan Evans), Corbin Bleu (Chad Danforth) and Monique Coleman (Taylor McKessie) will reunite for a special telecast of the movie. This will be aired on Wednesday, January 20 (8:00 p.m., ET/PT) on the Disney Channel.
The group has taped segments about their “High School Musical” experience at a high school gymnasium in suburban Los Angeles and will be aired during the telecast. However, there is one person who is conspicuously absent in these celebrations. Zac Efron, who played the lead role of Troy Bolton, could not join the others but has a pre-taped message for his fans.
Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer of Disney Channels Worldwide said, “Seeing the cast of ‘High School Musical’ back together again reaffirms what made it special 10 years ago. It’s their optimism, their dedication and their extraordinary talent—as a group—that made this such an exceptional movie and cultural phenomenon.”
“Ten years later, the movie continues to delight audiences around the globe, not just for its memorable song and dance numbers, but for its universal themes that continue to resonate with fans everywhere – express yourself, believe in yourself and always follow your dreams,” he added.
According to Eonline, Lucas Grabeel and Monique Coleman posted photos, including group selfies, from the recent reunion on their Instagram pages. However this is not the first time that the cast has met after the film. Eonline states that they have reunited many times in the past few years.
