Harry Potter and the Cursed Child movie is still trying to find its way into existence, and it looks like fans may have to wait for some more time to enjoy it on the silver screen. Why? It is majorly due to Daniel Radcliffe’s unwillingness to play the iconic role. The actor doesn’t want to reprise Harry’s character, and that could be until he hits 40. Does that mean the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child movie release date will be pushed to 2029?
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story set in the Harry Potter universe. A few sources recently confirmed that the story has been adapted for a stage show that is going to debut earlier this summer in London’s West End.
Now, another relevant source has reported that Warner Bros. is keen on bringing the play to the big screen as early as 2020. The studio is also in talks with Daniel Radcliffe to join them on board. However, the actor wants to keep himself away from the project for quite some time to establish himself as an ‘actor outside of this series’.
An insider conveyed via New York Daily News:
“Warners is secretly working on getting the movie rights and a screenplay settled, and of course in their minds, only one man should be Harry. However, he has made it clear that his mind is certainly not focused on returning to the role anytime soon – and that could be until he hits 40. Daniel had that job for over a decade with huge success and critical acclaim, but since then, he has really established himself as a very strong actor with films like ‘The Woman in Black’ and his Broadway work. He doesn’t need to go back for money or to reboot his career, so he will need some persuading.”
A few days back, a report also revealed Warner Bros. filed for a trademark for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on July 8. A positive sign indeed!
According to reports, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be the last part of the Harry Potter saga. The story features Harry as the father of three children. Of course, this is an older version of the fan favorite wizard. That could possibly be another solid reason for Daniel Radcliffe not to return as Harry anytime soon. In this case, the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child movie release date might be pushed further to 2029 to do justice to the character.
These are only speculations. Neither Warner Bros. nor Daniel Radcliffe has confirmed the future of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child movie yet.
