Rupert Grint sure knows how to break the hearts of Harry Potter fans around the globe.
“I would expect Ron has probably divorced Hermione already,” the actor told Huffington Post.
The series’ author, J.K. Rowling, earlier expressed regret at pairing the couple up. She said, they would’ve needed “relationship counselling.” Grint apparently agrees.
“I don’t think that relationship would have done very well,” he explained.
The actor sat down with Huffington Post as the third Celebration of Harry Potter kicked off in Universal Studios, Orlando. He was joined by former co-stars Matt Lewis (Neville Longbottom), Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood), and Katie Leung (Cho Chang). Grint and Lewis had fun imagining Ron’s dark future.
“He’s living on his own, in a little one-bedroom apartment. He hasn’t got a job,” said Grint.
“Living in a one-bedroom studio apartment all alone, doing nothing,” added Lewis.
Lynch was having none of it, however. She sees a less bleak future for Ron.
“Don’t say divorced. Say they’ve split up. They can reconcile,” she said.
Lewis was not done with his dark Ron predictions, though. He said he imagines his character Neville trying to help Ron. But Ron is being too stubborn.
“Maybe he’s trying to get Ron a job, man. And he keeps throwing it back in his face, like, ‘I don’t need your help, Neville; Jesus, just leave it,'” he said.
Lewis further suggests that the Ron-Hermione split would also split up their friend group. Lynch and Leung both say their characters would probably be Team Ron.
Lynch explains, “I think Ron would need more help. Hermione would handle herself better.”
Meanwhile, the actors have some advice to share with the stars of the upcoming Harry Potter prequel.
“Just enjoy it. It has been a hell of an experience for me…It was a good gig to be on! Just enjoy it because there’s nothing else like it, literally in the world. It is unique,” Lewis said.
The series prequel,”Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” is set to hit theaters on Nov. 18.
