Guardians of the Galaxy 2 won’t hit theaters for another ten months. But people are already looking forward to it as early as now. Marvel Studios knows how excited fans are for the movie. So the movie studio decided to give them a treat this week.
Marvel released the first concept art for the hit 2014 movie’s sequel. Everyone on the team is back. Star Lord, Groot, Drax, Yondu, Rocket, Nebula, and Gamora are all present in the teaser. However, there is one new face included in the picture. Who is this unknown character? Will she be joining the Guardians as their eighth and final member? Or will she be their main foe in the upcoming film?
According to Entertainment Weekly, the new character will likely not be the movie’s villain. Marvel just gave fans their first glimpse of the Guardians’ newest member, Mantis. Canadian actress Pom Klementieff will be joining the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 as the former Avenger.
Mantis is an acquaintance of the Guardians. She will join Star Lord and the other members of the team on their adventures for Vol. 2. The movie’s executive producer Jonathan Schwartz described Mantis as a bit socially awkward to say the least. “She has never really experienced social interaction… Everything she learns about dealing with people, she learns from the Guardians of the Galaxy, which is a very weird group to learn your social intricacies from,” Schwartz told Entertainment Weekly.
Aside from Mantis’ introduction, fans can also expect a “very different Groot” in the upcoming sequel. “He’s a younger Groot and a more rambunctious Groot,” Schwartz explained.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will hit the big screen in Australia on May 5, 2017.
