Anticipation for “Grey’s Anatomy” season 13 is high as viewers want to know if Meredith finally made up her mind, and heart, between Alex and Nathan.

Romance on the prime time medical drama series certainly doesn’t get anymore interesting than Meredith Grey’s love life. While a relationship between her and Alex seemed likely towards the end of season 12, she somehow ended up with Nathan, News Everyday recalled.

Yet “harsh words, flirtatious banter, numerous operating rooms and one wild night in the back seat” seem to mark her latest romance, TV Line wrote. Hence, could there be hope that Meredith picks Nathan over Alex? Actor Martin Henderson who plays Nathan described his character’s relationship with Meredith as “some magnetic, animal” attraction. Yet he revealed one common trait between the characters that could be good for their relationship as a couple.

“Shared loss… and just the fact that maybe [he can be] someone in her life that she can relate to on that level,” Henderson told TV Line.

“I think that’s always really powerful between a couple, [and it] may be fertile ground for them to actually have a relationship with some meaning,” Henderson added. He also noted the potential for both doctors to have fun should they get together romantically.

“Nathan is irreverent and kind of calls Meredith on her s—, and that might be really good for her, because he doesn’t take [things] all that seriously. It might be nice for her to have the opportunity to actually lighten up a bit around some stuff,” Henderson remarked.

Then again, actress Ellen Pompeo doesn’t seem convinced that Meredith would take Nathan seriously. Her revelation to Entertainment Weekly revealed the path that Meredith’s love life might take in “Grey’s Anatomy” season 13.

“Now we’re going to see Meredith have flings with safer people who she knows she can’t fall in love with, and know she can’t really be with, a.k.a Riggs. Riggs is super safe because everybody hates him,” Pompeo told the publication. Meanwhile fans don’t seems willing to give up on the possible hookup of Meredith and Alex, E! News wrote. Even “Grey’s Anatomy” executive producer Betsy Beers understood the logic behind their pleas.

“Look, they’re best friends, so I think emotionally—and I’ve always been a giant Alex fan, like from the beginning. I was like, ‘People are way, way underestimating the power of Alex…’ So any given chance, I was about Alex. He’s deep,” Beers told the publication.
