There is no doubt that Patrick Dempsey’s much-loved character McDreamy on “Grey’s Anatomy” is being missed by fans of the show. They are also rooting for his character to be brought back to life. Sad news though, it won’t be happening. And the message comes straight from the creator, Shonda Rhimes, and the leading lady of the show, Ellen Pompeo.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Pompeo and Rhimes have asked fans to move on from McDreamy’s death.
“Let’s keep it really real for a second and say this is really difficult for my ego. It’s okay! We all have one!” Pompeo told Entertainment Weekly.
“It’s like, Annalise Keating (Viola Davis on ‘How to Get Away With Murder’) carries the show, Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington on ‘Scandal’) carries the show. But somehow, Meredith Grey needs someone. Why can’t I just be the lead of the show the way Annalise and Olivia can? Why can’t I be on that poster by myself?”
She does seem to have a valid point there, as the show is supposed to be the story of Meredith Grey.
In another report by People, Jason George, who plays Dr. Ben Warren, shared, “The show has been on 12 years, but it has to change. People think they want everything to stay the same and everyone to be happy, but happy people make for boring television, ultimately.”
Notably, the upcoming season will be bringing fun and flirty back, something that the first few seasons were known for.
Earlier reports had Rhimes confirming that all the fun and lightness that fans fell in love with when the series began, is all set to return in the new season. Fans definitely have some more drama and excitement to look forward to.
“Grey’s Anatomy” fans have entered a post-McDreamy era for sure, but not without more excitement in the new season.
The 12th Season of “Grey’s Anatomy” premiered on ABC on September 4.
