Danny Cannon has tweeted the first look of Penguin’s father, who will meet his son (Penguin), and the self-proclaimed king of “Gotham” in Season 2. Not much is revealed about Penguin’s father as yet. The role will once again be essayed by Paul Reubens. Reubens had first played the character by the name of Tucker Cobblepot in the 1992 movie, “Batman Returns”.
That is not all, as the new season progresses, we will see a bunch of villains taking over our screens, as a part of the story line. According to movieweb, other iconic villains like Mr Freeze, Clayface, Mad Hatter and Hugo Strange will become a part of the storyline when the season premiers. The earlier season saw the beginning of a partnership between the Penguin essayed by Robin Taylor and the Riddler, played by Cory Michael Smith. Viewers will have to wait through the new season to see how the alliance unfurls.
Penguin, in “Gotham” is close to his mother and shares a loving relationship with her, as opposed to “Batman Returns”, where both–the father and mother throw an infant Penguin into a river. They leave him to die because they believe their child wouldn’t fit into society.
Does that mean Penguin’s father will have a darker side in this series? Or will Penguin become darker than ever?
In an interview given to Hollywood Reporter in November, Taylor has said “His mother was his tether to humanity, and she offered the only love he really experienced in his life. To lose that is absolutely devastating, but in a way it’s freeing. He feels tremendous guilt about his role in her death, and it’ll be interesting to see what happens if he can ever come to terms with that. In a way, his shred of humanity has been ripped away from him. It’s a huge transition for him.”
