Actress and singer Vanessa Williams joined the cast of “The Good Wife” season 7.

CBS announced that Williams will play a recurring role starting in November.

Williams will play an extremely successful businesswoman named Courtney Boalt. CBS described Boalt as someone who will potentially back Peter Florrick’s (Chris Noth) campaign for president. She will also spark a mutual attraction with Eli Gold (Alan Cumming).

According to Variety, “The Good Wife” creators Robert and Michelle King have said, “There are very few names you can put side-by-side that make you laugh. Alan Cumming and Vanessa Williams are at the top of that list. We couldn’t be more excited.”

Entertainment Weekly noted that this is not the first time that Eli has had a love interest in the show. In season two, America Ferrera played Natalie Flores whom Eli fell in love with.

Williams has been known for her role in “Ugly Betty,” which also gave her three Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Her long list of TV credits includes “The Mindy Project,” “666 Park Ave,” “Desperate Housewives”, and “Boomtown”.

Aside from Williams, Jeffrey Dean Morgan will also be joining the show, according to Variety. Morgan will play an experienced and calm investigator named Jason Crouse who will be hired by Alicia (Julianna Margulies) for her new law firm. Morgan was seen in “Supernatural” and “Extant.”

Cush Jumbo will also be brought in as Attorney Lucca Quinn. She will play Alicia’s rival and they will compete for clients seeking release on bail.

Michael J. Fox will reprise his role as Louis Canning. Margo Martindale will also return in her character as Willa Eastman, a campaign operative responsible for the successes by some underdog presidential candidates. She will be seen clashing with Eli this season.

Fans will also see more of Jane Curtin (Saturday Night Live) as she will be coming back as Judge Farley. Christopher McDonald, Bridget Regan and Mo Rocca will have guest appearances in the season seven debut.

“The Good Wife” season 7 premieres on October 4 at 9.p.m. on CBS.
