“Game of Thrones” started with five Stark children. However, after last week’s episode, only three of Eddard’s children remain. His youngest son, Rickon, died after Ramsay Bolton’s arrow pierced through his back. But could he possibly be raised from the dead?
As the Wrap pointed out, Rickon’s character went largely unused and unnoticed throughout the series. His death seemed so final in the episode. But could he still return next season?
Of course, Rickon can still be resurrected as his half-brother, Jon Snow, was raised from the dead at the beginning of this season. But Jon himself might not be too comfortable making his brother experience the same things he went through.
However, it is interesting to note that Jon did not have Rickon’s body burned after the Battle, in spite of the coming White Walker threat. If the White Walkers get to his body soon, he might be raised up as wight and forced to join the army of the dead. However, this theory remains unconfirmed.
Meanwhile, Art Parkinson, who plays Rickon, revealed that he was not informed beforehand that his character was going to die. “When I was originally told I was coming back to the show, I didn’t actually know,” the actor told the Hollywood Reporter. “But they explained how Rickon was going to die, and it sounded really cool. I was happy that it was going to be such a great death.”
He also said he hopes his “Game of Thrones” death is not for nothing.
“Maybe Rickon’s death is a turning point, and that was the storm before the calm, to flip it. Maybe his death was a sign that things have gotten bad, but they’re about to get better. Things always get worse before they get better. Hopefully this is a turning point for the Starks.” Parkinson said.
