‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6 Gwendoline Christie Leaving? Joins ‘Top of the Lake’

Gwendoline Christie has taken up a new project. She has joined the cast of Sundance TV’s murder drama, “Top of the Lake” Season 2. Does that mean Brienne of Tarth will bid adieu to “Game of Thrones?” Certainly not. Fans will even see her in the two most intriguing dramas on television.

According to Bustle, the shooting schedule of “Game of Thrones” is not very intensive. As a result, actors get an opportunity to participate in other projects while still being a part of the iconic show. Christie will join Elizabeth Moss of the “Mad Men” fame in season two of “Top of the Lake” but is set on Sydney shores this time.

The second season of the popular TV series has started filming and the stars have already reached Sydney, reveals TV Week. According to Deadline, there has been no disclosure of the character Christie will play except for a cryptic “major role” news. “Top of the Lake” debuted in 2013 and was very popular with the awards circuit. The show and its leading actors had won a number of awards including the Golden Globes, Emmys, Critics’ Choice Television and AACTA Awards, states TV Series Finale.

Gwendoline Christie has revealed her delight to be a part of this murder mystery and the chance to collaborate with Jane Campion. “I am so delighted to be working on Top of the Lake 2,” she exclaimed. “Jane Campion has been a major creative influence throughout my life, and I could not feel more privileged to be working on the next installment of her unique and enthralling drama, alongside the brilliant Elisabeth Moss,” Christie added.

The award-winning series has brought together a bunch of broadcasters, informs The Hollywood Reporter. For instance, in the US, See-Saw Films is again producing the project. On the other hand, BBC Two and Sundance TV are co-producing it. BBC First and Foxtel have joined hands for Australia and Arte has come on board for France, informs TV Series Finale.

Jamie Laurenson and Hakan Kousetta of See-Saw Films believe that Campion’s gritty story, amazing vision and immense talent resulted in each and every previous partner coming on board again.

“We believe Season 2 will continue to thrill and enthrall audiences worldwide. The fact that we have been able to bring back broadcast partners from different corners of the world is a testament to the quality of the show and Jane’s extraordinary talent,” explained the duo.
