Game of Thrones Recap: Six Major Events in Premiere Episode

Game of Thrones

The moment of truth has finally arrived! Game of Thrones Season 6 is officially now upon us, and it more than satiated everyone’s thirst for the intrigues, the mysteries, the romance and the warfare in the four corners of Westeros.

The first episode of Game of Thrones Season 6 was a speed date with all the show’s key players. They gave us enough to inform us how they are, and enough to have us speculate about what they plan to do.

Sansa and Theon finally escape

Perhaps one of the happiest things to ever come to Game of Thrones was Sansa and Theon’s thrilling escape from the hands of the Boltons in the North. This is the only good news we’ve heard in a long while. Brienne and Podrick arrive just in time to save Sansa and Theon from the Bolton soldiers who’ve caught up with them. Sansa has suffered enough, and Theon has more than paid the price for his betrayal.

Ramsay Bolton is riling up over the incident and is out for a hunt. But Sansa and Theon are safe for now, and that’s all that matters.

Jon Snow is dead

Jon Snow is still very dead. As seen in sneak peeks, Jon Snow’s body is fully intact and is being guarded by his loyal comrades, along with Ser Davos and Snow’s direwolf, Ghost.

Power shift in Dorne

A more surprising turn of events in Game of Thrones Season 6 was the overthrow of Prince Doran. Ellaria Sands and her Sand Snakes daughters kill Prince Doran for the simple reason that he refuses to wage war to avenge the death of his brother Oberyn. It seems like a rather drastic call for Ellaria, who is now Dorne’s new chief. It seems that the necessary consequence of this would be Dorne marching off to war.

According to Forbes, Doran’s death is quite a shocker since he’s more calculating and clever in the books and it wouldn’t have been this easy to terminate him.

The calm before the storm

Things appear to be a bit quiet in Kings Landing for now, but things are heating up. Team Lannister has not revealed their plans, but an attack on the High Sparrow is most certain. The Tyrells are still in prison and are still being interrogated by the crimes they are accused of.

Daenerys reunited with the Dothraki

Dany is presented to a new Khal, Khal Moro. She doesn’t immediately tell them she’s a widowed khaleesi, and the big reveal only comes out when Khal Moro announces he’ll make her his concubine. As a rule, a Khal should not touch the wives of other Khals. Moro promises that Daenerys will not be harmed, but he is taking him to Vaes Dothrak where all the widows of a Khal are supposed to stay.

Meanwhile, Jorah Mormont and Daario Naharis set out to track Daenerys and rescue her.

Melisandre’s big secret

Lady Melisandre is not what she appears to be. Vox reports that Melisandre’s appearance as the youthful sorceress, played by Carice Van Houten, is merely an illusion or glamour. It’s a complex type of magic. In the books, it was said that the glamour magic was difficult for Melisandre to conjure and “it had cost her.”

This opens up a lot of questions, mostly Jon Snow-related, since she’s probably a more experienced sorceress than viewers had imagined.
