Fresh from their record-breaking victory at the Emmys 2016, Game of Thrones Season 7 showrunner D.B. Weiss hinted at what is ahead for the series. However, would his commentary on the spinoff be cause for alarm or excitement among fans?
Game of Thrones Season 7 is expected to premiere in April 2017. Yet as always, the endless stream of spoilers offers many possible scenarios. Of course the resurrection of Jon Snow makes it even more interesting for fans. It raised curiosity over his fate after he successfully avenged his sister Sansa. Thus, his character might have a new objective. Could it involve an alliance between him and his sister?
Showrunner D.B. Weiss hinted at Game of Thrones Season 7 and the next as being bigger than before. It would also be better. At the same time, it would be worse. Fortunately, he assured fans the former would stand out, which is likely a big relief for fans. Moreover, it fuels anticipation for the last two installments of the series.
However, he offered an interesting response to the question about the publicized Game of Thrones spinoff. Apparently, the current showrunners will not take part in the reported prequel to the fantasy series. Instead, Weiss and fellow showrunner David Benioff pointed to author George R.R. Martin, who was also present at the Emmy Awards night, according to iDigital Times.
“Well I do have thousands of pages of fake history that have led up to Game of Thrones. At the moment, we still have a show to finish and I still have two books to finish. So for now, that’s all speculation,” Martin revealed.
Indeed, fans are still waiting for the Winds of Winter release date. GRRM has yet to finish writing it. Hence, when news of the spinoff came up, speculation rose as to which was more likely to happen: the book or the GoT spinoff. Based on Martin’s recent comment, it looks like he wants to finish the books first. Then again, could he change his mind and pursue the spinoff?
