Game of Thrones Season 6 Spoiler: Aidan Gillen Teases Littlefinger’s Return

Game of Thrones Season 6

Viewers are about to enter the fourth episode of Game of Thrones Season 6 where they will reunite with a long-missed character. Petyr Baelish, who’s been missing in action since the show premiered on April 24, will finally make his return to the show in the upcoming episode.

The last time fans saw Petyr Baelish was in season 5 when he left Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) with the Boltons in Winterfell, after which he returned to King’s Landing. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, actor Aidan Gillen reveals what Littlefinger is up to in Game of Thrones Season 6.

“For me, this time out, there’s a level of atonement in relation to Sansa and my misjudgment of Ramsay Bolton,” Gillen shares his character. “A lot of what I’m up to is atonement and really trying to align myself the right people – though, I guess, I’m always doing that!”

He adds that Baelish admits matching Sansa to Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) was a mistake. This season, however, Baelish hopes to redeem himself and allow viewers to see a more sympathetic side to him.

“I know it seems unlikely Petyr Baelish, who knows everything, would be unaware of his reputation and the depths of his cruelty. In a way, this shows a new side of him, a faltering, and I do want to make amends,” Gillen continues.

Meanwhile, the preview clip for the fourth episode shows Petry Baelish telling Robin Arryn (Lino Facioli) that Sansa escaped Winterfell. It seems that Baelish is plotting a rescue mission to ensure Sansa’s safety from the Boltons.

As for Sansa, Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) and Podrick (Daniel Portman), it appears that they have reached Castle Black safely, The Hollywood Reporter writes. There’s still uncertainty as to what waits for Sansa in Castle Black, considering that in the previous episode her half-brother Jon Snow has announced the end of his watch. But even if Jon Snow’s not there anymore, many of Jon’s followers may pledge to protect Sansa from the Boltons.

Game of Thrones Season 6 airs every Sunday on HBO.
