‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6 Episode 1 Recap: Jon Snow’s Return Hinted

Game of Thrones

“Game of Thrones” Season 6 just premiered to legions of GoT fans. Questions about what happens next in the series swarmed the Internet ever since the end of Season 5. Finally, episode one entitled “The Red Woman” could have the answers everyone wants to know.

First and foremost on the minds of GoT fans is the fate of Jon Snow. Although he appeared dead in the season premiere, The New York Times surmised that he might not stay dead for long. RadioTimes posited that he could be back in action by the third episode entitled “Oathbreaker.”

Melisandre’s transformation could be the key to saving Jon Snow, the Independent noted. The publication pointed out the favoured theory that she would give up her life to him. Tech Insider remarked on her revelation and referred to her as an “old wrinkly woman.” The publication assumes that her role in Jon Snow’s resurrection would unfold in episode 2 called “Home.”

One of the highlights of episode one showed Ramsay mourning the loss of Myranda. However, his true character came forth regardless of his grief when he had her body fed to the hounds. This particular scene earned the disapproval of fans during the premiere screening, Entertainment Weekly reported.

Brienne also kept her oath in episode one where she rescued Sansa and Theon from Ramsay’s men. Brienne also offered her servitude to Sansa again and the latter accepted it.

Cersei welcomed the return of Jaime and Myrcella that also merited a rare smile from her. However, her merriment was short lived given the expression on Jaime’s face. Normally, the situation would elicit a violent reaction from Cersei. However, her response was unlike anything GoT fans had seen before. She felt grief over her daughter’s fate and her dialogue was equally unexpected, EW noted.

“I don’t know where she came from. She was nothing like me. No meanness, no jealousy just good. I thought if I could make something so good, so pure, maybe I’m not a monster,” Cersei said.

Spoilers for “Game of Thrones” season 6 flooded the web prior to the premiere date. Even Joe Jonas shared his predictions on what happens next in the series. Did “The Red Woman” match your expectations?
