Has Idina Menzel really chosen a girlfriend for her “Frozen 2” character? Fans of the movie earlier launched an online petition to give Elsa a girlfriend for the “Frozen” sequel. Has Disney really granted their fans’ wish? Will Elsa really be the first openly gay Disney lead character?
According to Entertainment Tonight, Disney has yet to decide on the matter. But Menzel might be more than willing to give their movie’s fans what they want. “I think it’s great,” the actress told Entertainment Tonight. “Disney’s just got to contend with that.”
However, contrary to rumours, the actress has not picked out who should play her character’s girlfriend. She has not confirmed that Elsa would get a girlfriend, either. She is still leaving the final decision to the sequel’s producers. “I’ll let them figure that out,” she said. Menzel reacted to their fans’ online campaign on the red carpet of this year’s Billboard Music Awards. “No matter what, [Elsa] changed my life,” the actress added.
Meanwhile, Menzel’s co-star Kristen Bell, who voices Elsa’s sister Anna, earlier confirmed that they have yet to start recording. “We’re just about to [start recording]. They’ve just written it and they’re still doing tweaks, but I think we should be recording this month,” Bell told Collider. “The story is great, and they exude quality. What I know about that whole team is that they wouldn’t just put something out to put it out. That’s why it took them so long to even announce that we were doing a second one. Generally, when you have a first successful movie you want to make a second one. It took them a while because they wanted to figure out what story they needed to tell…and I think they found it.”
Disney has yet to confirm a release date for “Frozen 2.”
