Frank Ocean’s brother tricked fans that are eagerly waiting for the artist’s new album and most were outraged about it.
Ocean promised to release his new album “Boys Don’t Cry” by the end of July but it’s already August, and his fans are not happy about it. So when Ocean’s younger brother, Ryan Breaux, shared a photo on Instagram with a caption that the album is finally out with an iTunes link on his bio, everyone was eager to check it, USA Today noted.
However, the iTunes link did not lead to Ocean’s new album rather it ended up going to the page for Rick Astley “Never Gonna Give You Up” music video, the Independent reported.
Breaux rickrolled his brother’s fans with a sham announcement by posting a photo of Frank holding what would be seen to be the new album and captioned “I got two versions. I got twoooo versions.” #ISSUE1 #ALBUM3 #JULY2015 #BOYSDONTCRY.”
Ocean’s official Tumblr site also features the same photo.
The Instagram photo shared by Ocean’s brother garnered more than 1,200 comments and most of those expressed rage at Breaux for preying on fan excitement, Uproxx.com reported. Some fans called Breaux “a savage” while other said his action is a “brutal joke,” DIY magazine noted.
In April, Ocean announced that his new “Boys Don’t Cry” album, with a magazine compliment, would be out in July 2015. Rumors circulated that the album would be released on the 19th, 21st and 23rd of July.
The R&B rapper has neither given reason why the release was delayed nor did he reveal a new release date for the record.
“Boys Don’t Cry” is his third studio album. It follows the release of his July 2012 record “channel ORANGE,” Music Times said.
Ocean’s first album received positive reviews and big sales, and it debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200.
