Four months after their super fight, fans are still hoping for a rematch between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny “PacMan” Pacquiao. But according to some reports, Money is allegedly too scared of Manny and would not be open to round two of their fight.
Rumors about a rematch began when the Pound for Pound King was accused of receiving IV (intravenous injection) mix of saline and vitamins, a day before his fight with the Philippine boxer, SB Nation reported on Wednesday, via ESPN.
The act was against the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) guidelines, suggesting that Mayweather could have cheated during “The Fight of the Century.”
However, Mayweather denied any of the allegations through a statement released on Thursday.
“As already confirmed by the USADA (United States Anti- Doping Agency) statement, I did not commit any violations of the Nevada or USADA drug testing guidelines. I follow and have always followed the rules of Nevada and USADA, the gold standard of drug testing,” as we quote.
USADA also gave an “exemption” to “The Best Ever” boxer.
On the other hand, Pacquiao’s camp seems to be disappointed. A request for rematch was brought up.
“I find it ironic. We tried to get an injection that was totally legal before the fight and the commission slams us and then this thing with Mayweather happens,” Michael Koncz, Pacquiao’s adviser explained.
“Maybe the best thing for Floyd to do is have a rematch with Manny. But we were shocked by [the TUE]. It shouldn’t have happened.”
Top Rank CEO Bob Arum also said that USADA “has a lot of explaining to do.”
Mayweather is yet to comment on the rematch issue.
