If anyone is serious about helping Syria, they should fight terrorism, says a Syrian politician.
Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham believes fighting terrorism should be the “top priority.” He said this in his address during the 11th session of the conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Member States in Baghdad.
“This needs to be the top priority in any talk or dialogue because eliminating terrorism is the real path into establishing stability, reconstruction and building a real partnership among the Syrians,” SANA quoted al-Laham as saying.
According to the Syrian politician, following Russia’s lead to coordinate with Iraqi and Syrian governments is the way to go in the fight against terrorism.
He believes it is the only way to fight terror. Otherwise, he shares that the situation will get worse and move to other countries.
Al-Laham went critical about some Western and Arab countries. He believes those are promoting cross-border terrorism in Iraq and Syria. He said those countries were doing so for their selfish interests.
According to Al-Laham, the interference is against the principles of the Union and the Charter of the Organization of the Islamic Conference.
US Vice President Joe Biden earlier met Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu. He said after the meeting that Turkey and the US were ready for a military solution.
“We do know it would better if we can reach a political solution but we are prepared…if that’s not possible, to have a military solution to this operation in taking out Daesh,” Fox News quoted Biden as referring to the Islamic State by a pejorative term.
The US vice president talked about a military solution in case Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and the opposition forces fail to come to a peaceful settlement in Geneva. Biden said he discussed with the Turkish PM how both the countries could support Sunni Arab forces against Assad.
